The actions and words of Kristjan Järvan, the deputy mayor for Tallinn's transport sector, strongly contradict the development strategies of the city of Tallinn and directly threaten the well-being, health and lives of the city's residents. We demand his removal from office.
Deputy Mayor Järvan has repeatedly publicly expressed views that are against people who would like to do things in the city without a car. His comments in the media, as well as decisions in traffic management, disproportionately favor car traffic at the expense of bicycle paths and pedestrian safety.
The most recent example is his decision to eliminate the temporary bicycle path of the Pärnu road viaduct and direct cyclists to the sidewalk, which ends at one end with stairs and essentially at the school gate, which means many potentially (life)threatening situations.
Järvan claims that this was done in the name of public transport (preserving bus mirrors), but it is only about adding 5 cm of width (the track could have been made from 2.7 m to 2.75 m if the driving speed on this section was 40 km/h); instead, the entire bike lane was removed from the side of the road for 10,000 euros.
The given example is just one, the most recent example of the deputy mayor's activities, Järvan has stood out before with striking statements and actions:
- Järvan lost some bus priority lanes in the city because they were used by too many cars
- He proposed the idea of creating more parking spaces in Tallinn instead of the trees that provide shade and richness of life
- He also expressed the opinion that pedestrians could be directed into tunnels where they wouldn't be on the way of cars
We also remind here that Kristjan Järvan does not recognize other scientific positions, for example, that humans have played a decisive role in climate change.
The city must be safe and comfortable for every resident, whether they are 8 or 80, on foot, by bike or by car. Kristjan Järvan only stands for the interests and comfort of motorists with his actions, and it comes at the expense of the safety of all other city residents and all of our tax money.
Järvan's activities threaten the townspeople, especially children. His activity inhibits the sustainable development of the city, increases the city's traffic problems, air pollution and noise.
Since Deputy Mayor Järvan's actions are clearly contrary to the principles of modern and sustainable urban planning, we ask that he be removed from office and a competent person be appointed in his place as Deputy Mayor.
The residents of Tallinn deserve a City Government that works in the interests of all people, and does not focus on increasing short-term popularity at the expense of the well-being, health and lives of the city residents.
Autojuhid
Autoga sõitjad ei peaks rohkem peedistama, nemad on need kes linnakassat täidavad. Ega siis see santlaager, kes ei jaksa omale isegi bussipiletit osta ja sõidavad linna kulul, mingeid makse ei maksa. Ainult mölisevad autojuhtide kallal.
Anti, selline kommentaar on üldistav ja halvustav. Antud rahvaalgatuse eesmärk ei ole kellegi peedistamine, vaid abilinnapea ametist tagandamine. Tallinn vajab abilinnapead, kes suudab luua võrdsemad võimalused kõigile linnaelanikele, ükskõik kuidas nad punktist A punkti B saavad. Hetkel pole sageli autole mitte ühtegi alternatiivi ja see ei ole okei.
Hea Anti! Mina olen täiesti päri, et ühistransport peaks olema tasuline ja olen nõus selle eest ka maksma. Olen nii autojuhi, ratturi kui jalakäija rollis. Kõigil sihtgruppidel peab linnas hea liigelda olema. Ps! Jäägem viisakaks.
Raamatupidaja Anti? Nii palju võiks teada, et omavalitsuse tulu tuleb suures osas tulumaksust ja auto omamine ei puutu seega asjasse. Teine teema on, et kuidas saab maksu maksmisel olla seos õigusega avaliku ruumi kasutamiseks? Lapsed ja penskarid peaks käima mööda seinaääri ja kummardama sügavalt iga tööl käiva inimese ees? Kusjuures see käiks sel juhul ka töötu Tallinlase ja ka Harjumaa elaniku kohta.
Ei midagi isiklikku
Kui 10 aastat tagasi Tallinnas hakkas kehtima tasuta linnatransport, kasvas linnakodanike arv ühtäkki ümberkaudsete valdade arvelt. Sellega sai Keskerakond lojaalseid valijaid juurde, kes müüsid oma põhimõtted bussipileti eest. Uus linnavõim võiks nüüd selle peo ära lõpetada ja pidada ka autoomanikku inimeseks.
