We, non-indifferent civilians of Estonia, address the members of the Riigikogu with the following appeal.
On March 16, 2022, Alar Karis, the President of Estonia, allowed himself to publicly say the following: “We are all at war, where everyone must choose a side. And indifference makes the indifferent an accomplice in this war.”
What war is he talking about? About the legal war? Between whom and whom? Has Russia declared war on Ukraine? Did Ukraine declare war in response to Russia's actions? No.
Armed conflict is always terrible. Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Libya, Syria, and now Ukraine. It's always terrible when people can't agree and guns start talking.
The Founding Fathers saw Estonia as an independent country. They also saw Estonia as a peaceful country. where civilians live.
Every civilian has his own beliefs. And they can be different. However, we are all convinced that war on the territory of our own country is bad.
Civilians do not want war. Estonian civilians do not want to be instilled with hatred in events that did not escalate into a war on the territory of the country.
It is unlikely that the founding fathers of Estonia could have imagined that a person holding the post of president would become engaged in war propaganda.
It is unlikely that the founding fathers of Estonia could have imagined that the flags of another country would fly on the territory of the country.
It is unlikely that civilians even want to start thinking that some dead men, women and children are better than other dead men, women and children. It is immoral. This is disgusting.
We did not draw up this appeal immediately after his speech, so it cannot be said that this is done for the sake of hype or misunderstanding.
We, the civilians of Estonia, want to tell you that we are against the war. And we are against war propaganda. We are against the destruction of Estonia.
We, the civilians of Estonia, demand from the members of the Riigikogu to condemn the activities of Alar Karis in the office of President in propagating war on the territory of Estonia.
