Statement Regarding Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna
We, the undersigned Estonian citizens, express our categorical dissatisfaction with Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna’s statements regarding the readiness to deploy nuclear weapons on Estonian territory.
Justification
1. Direct Threat to National Security The deployment of nuclear weapons, or even a public expression of readiness to do so, automatically turns Estonia into a "priority target" for preemptive or retaliatory strikes in any global conflict. Instead of strengthening defense capabilities, such statements create an existential risk for the entire population of the country.
2. Lack of Public Mandate The question of deploying nuclear weapons is a matter of life and death for the nation. Estonian citizens did not grant the government or individual ministers a mandate during elections to transform the country into a nuclear bridgehead. Such strategic decisions must not be made behind closed doors or presented as a minister's personal opinion.
3. Disregard for the Spirit of International Agreements Estonia has been a party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) since 1992. Statements regarding the readiness to host nuclear warheads undermine Estonia’s international reputation as a responsible and predictable partner, while encouraging the escalation of the arms race in the Baltic Sea region.
4. Socio-economic Risks Such rhetoric destabilizes the investment climate Estonia’s long-term development, real estate market, and the influx of talent are only possible under conditions of stability and peace. A "nuclear zone" status would make our region unsuitable for long-term investments and the safe living of our citizens.
Summary
Diplomacy must serve security and peace, not provoke a catastrophe. Margus Tsahkna has demonstrated disregard for the security interests of Estonia's residents through his statements. We call upon the Riigikogu to provide a legal assessment of these actions and to remove the minister from office.

Tsahkna ise pidas siia tuumarelvade paigutamise ebamõistlikuks
"Esimese stuudio" saates vist ütles Tsahkna, et siia oleks tõenäoliselt mõttetu ja ohtlik tuumarelvi paigutada. Seda ilmselt ei juhtu niikuinii
